The Red Devils manager has made an Argentine star his top-priority signing this summer.
Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Lisandro Martinez as their ‘top-priority signing in defence’ this summer.
The Red Devils are spending their first transfer window under newly-appointed Erik ten Hag.
The English giants are pushing to sign Ten Hag’s former player Frankie de Jong as their first summer signing. However, they are now considering recruitments in other areas of the pitch.
According to 90min, United are considering a move for Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez ahead of the next season.
The Argentine defender joined Ajax in 2019 following a personal request from Ten Hag. He went on to become a key player under the Dutch manager, attracting interest from several elite clubs.
Arsenal are closely following Martinez’s situation, but that has not stopped United from inquiring about the player. The Eredivisie champions reportedly demand €50m for the Argentine star, but United are yet to submit a formal offer.
The Red Devils are also close to sealing a move for Tyrell Malacia, who plays for Ajax’s league rivals Feyenoord. The player was on the verge of completing a transfer to Lyon when United stepped in to convince him over a move.
The possible arrivals of Malacia and Martinez will provide United with two more defensive options next season. Following the poor defensive stats of the last season, it won’t be surprising to see major changes in United’s backline during the next campaign.
