Kieran Trippier will miss the Magpies’ next games after suffering a foot injury.
Newcastle signed Trippier as part of their extensive January recruitments. The club’s new owners fortified Eddie Howe’s squad with four more additions after securing the England international’s signature.
Trippier has been an integral part of Howe’s lineup since joining the Magpies. However, an injury problem will sideline the former Atletico Madrid star for the next few weeks.
Trippier scored Newcastle’s match-winner in their 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday. It was the Magpies third win a row, reigniting their hopes of escaping relegation. However, Trippier’s foot injury in the second half overshadowed the victory.
“Trippier is set to be sidelined for the club’s upcoming fixtures after fracturing a bone in his foot during Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Aston Villa,” Newcastle’s official statement reads.
“The 31-year-old scored the game’s only goal at St. James’ Park to help the Magpies to a third successive Premier League win, but had to be substituted early in the second half after sustaining a foot injury.
“Trippier underwent an X-ray immediately after the game and scans have shown a fracture to the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot.
“Everyone at the club wishes Kieran a speedy recovery.”
Newcastle will face West Ham in their next Premier League game, before meeting Brentford a week later. The club have refused to provide a timeline for Trippier’s injury, but he might stay out of action for a few months.
