The Bianconeri signed Denis Zakaria on the final day of the winter transfer window.

Denis Zakaria announced his decision to leave Borussia Monchengladbach weeks before the January transfer window. While entering the final six months of his Gladbach contract, the midfielder attracted interest from several elite clubs across Europe.

Bayern Munich hoped to keep Zakaria in Bundesliga while Manchester United and Arsenal were among his English suitors. However, Juventus managed to avoid the competition by reaching an agreement with Gladbach over a reported €5million move on the deadline day.

Juventus are yet to announce the signing, but the Bundesliga side have already confirmed they have finalized transfer.

“There has been a lot of work put into this transfer in the last few weeks,” reads a statement from Gladbach’s vice president Rainer Bonhof.

“Denis has had an important role in pushing the move through.

He added: “He made it clear to us that he wanted to change clubs. He also let us know that he wanted to give Borussia a transfer fee for the move. This made sense from our end in terms of the financial implications of the deal, so we agreed to the deal.

“We would like to thank Denis for his honesty and openness, as well as for his performances at Borussia over the last four and a half years. We wish him all the best and good luck for his new journey.”

Zakaria will replace Rodrigo Bentancur, who left Juventus to join Tottenham on Monday. The French midfielder can play his debut in Bianconeri’s upcoming Serie A game against Verona on Sunday.
