The French forward completed a loan move to Sevilla amid his game time issues under Ralf Rangnick.
Anthony Martial informed Manchester United of his intention to leave the club before the current transfer window. Following weeks of negotiation with Sevilla, the forward eventually agreed to take a pay cut to join the La Liga side.
The loan move will most likely provide Martial with more game time after his long-running struggles at Man United. Since Ralf Rangnick’s appointment in early December, the 26-year-old has played only eight minutes with the Red Devils.
In an interview after finalizing his move to Sevilla, Martial opened up on his reasons behind the transfer.
“For me, it was about the feeling I had with the manager [Julen Lopetegui],” he told the club’s YouTube channel.
“I decided that at the moment I wanted to come to Sevilla,
“I spoke with him [Lopetegui] a few times, he was very excited to see me coming here to play.“
He added: “For me, it’s a good club. Whatever, it’s not just about money, it’s to play and enjoy. That’s it, that’s why I chose to come here: to play and enjoy football again.”
“I feel excited, it’s a good club in Spain, I come to help and do a great job. I know they have good players, I’m just coming to help, give my best and try to win a trophy for the fans.”
Sevilla are chasing Real Madrid on top of the La Liga table, sitting four points behind the Blancos. The La Liga heavyweights will have Martial at their disposal for their upcoming match against Osasuna on February 5.
