Udinese confirmed the arrival of an Arsenal defender on a loan move amidst their troublesome Serie A season.
Arsenal star Pablo Mari has officially made his loan move to Udinese in Serie A for the rest of the season.
The Italian club wrote on their official website: “Pablo Marí is a new Udinese player. The Spanish defender arrives on loan from Arsenal until the end of the sporting season.”
However, Mari will return to the Gunners at the end of the campaign. Because Le Zebrette do not have the option to purchase on a permanent basis.
The Arsenal defender wrote on Twitter: “I am proud and happy, I am looking forward to beginning this new adventure and giving my all for the Bianconeri shirt and the fans.”
Initially, Mari moved to England from Flamengo for €6 million in July 2020. But, the Spaniard only managed to rack 22 games across all competitions under Mikel Arteta.
It would be a major boost for Udinese’s defensive structure, given their 14th rank in the Serie A table. They sit just six points above the relegation zone with half a season yet to progress.
Moreover, the club has conceded 36 goals so far in 22 league games. They also sacked head coach Luca Gotti in December and promoted his assistant Gabriele Cioffi for the role.
Nevertheless, Mari is expected to appear for his debut game on Saturday as Udinese visit Genoa for a vital clash.
