Ousmane Dembele might leave Barcelona for free in the summer.
Barcelona are interested in extending the contract of Ousmane Dembele. However, the two parties still have significant differences in contract terms.
According to SPORT, the French star and his representatives are doubtful about some of the conditions in the new deal. Barcelona are reportedly willing to keep Dembele until 2024, but they are determined to reduce his salary.
Dembele has constantly struggled with fitness and form issues in recent seasons. As a result, his market value has reduced significantly since his €100million arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
Dembele’s current contract at Camp Nou will expire next summer. The France international can start negotiating with other clubs from February.
The Spanish source reports Barcelona are still confident to finalize the deal. However, the club must first convince the player’s representatives over the new salary.
Dembele has just returned to the Blaugrana squad following his knee injury during the Euros. The French star displayed a convincing performance in Barca’s Champions League win over Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday.
Barcelona return to action on Saturday as they face Celta Vigo in their next La Liga game. It remains to be seen whether Dembele can make his return to Barca’s starting XI in that match.
