The Englishman’s error cost his side the game in their European campaign opener, leading to doubts over his place in the team.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to keep Jesse Lingard in his Manchester United squad, insisting the players is “a Red through and through.”
Lingard’s current contract at Manchester United is due to expire at the end of the season.
The attacking midfielder generated a flurry of intetest from a few Premier League clubs over the summer after gainning prominence during his on loan spell at West Ham in the second half of 2020-21. But he he opted to stay put despite the risk of continuing to remain a squad player in what is now a star-studded Red Devils team.
It has been been reported, however, the 28-year-oldΒ turned down a renewal offer from his boyhood club last week due to doubts over his game time.
If his future at Old Trafford wasn’t uncertain enough, it amplified after Lingard made a costly error in the Champions League match against young Boys that resulted in United suffering a defeat.
“He’s got one [year], this season, left on his contract. Of course the club is talking to him and his dad,” Solskjaer told a press conference ahead of the match against West Ham United on Sunday.
“We see him as a Man United player in the future as well.
“Jesse has come back into us after a great spell at West Ham, he showed his qualities, he’s back in the England squad, he scores goals for England and we really want to see the best of Jesse this season.
“We support him and we hope to keep him here with us, he’s a Red through and through.”
