After last Tuesday’s offer from Real Madrid, PSG reacted to Kylian Mbappe’s attempt to leave the French giants to play in La Liga.
Florentino Perez knew that Real Madrid’s offer for Kylian Mbappe would anger Nasser Al-Khelaifi. The PSG chairman responds to the orders from the Qatar Sheikh, who has never in his life taken no for an answer. He was convinced that bringing Leo Messi to the club would convince Kylian Mbappe that staying was the best idea. But he thought wrong. All the young French footballer wants is to bathe himself in the prestige that playing for Real Madrid gets you. This is a luxury that the PSG owner still doesn’t have: a long history at the club.
Mbappe has been dreaming of a possible move to Real Madrid since he was a small boy. Now that he has the chance, he won’t pass on the opportunity. But he also needs to suffer the consequences of angering the Sheikh and Nasser Al-Khelaifi. After serious consideration, Sporting Director Leonardo spoke to Radio Montecarlo about the offer. Even though he sounded angry, he refused to deny the existence of such an offer that was delivered in writing by Real Madrid. This leaves an open door for further negotiations and Kylian’s dream still alive.
What did Leonardo say about the offer?
During a sitdown with RMC Sports, this is what Leonardo said first: “We do not consider the bid to be enough. I am not going to confirm figures, but it is around €160 million. It is less than what we paid for him [180m euros plus add-ons], but it’s more than that. It’s the way it’s been done, [it has been] disrespectful. We have done everything for Mbappe to stay with us and with a week to go we are not going to change the plan. Kylian is the centre of the project, but he is not above it. But if he stays or goes, it will always be on our terms. If he wants to leave he will leave, but on our terms like any other player. We can’t change the plan a week before the market closes. If a player wants to go he will go, but on our terms.
“Our goal is that he stays and that he renews. Madrid have made an offer. And Mbappe has always promised he would never leave the club on a free. We’ll see in a year’s time. Honestly, we are not happy. But nothing and nobody is going to stop us from the dream we want to fulfil. There is a one-year contract and a bid that is not good enough. Everyone knows that. I don’t know. I only know what I’ve said about Madrid’s attitude. They’ve been working for two years, talking to everyone, the family… There is no Plan B. The atmosphere we have is very positive, there’s excitement all over the world, and we have never thought about a plan without Mbappe.”
