After reports of a Cristiano Ronaldo comeback resurfaced, let’s see how Real Madrid could line up with their record goalscorer back.
Carlo Ancelotti wants Cristiano Ronaldo to return to Real Madrid and is in talks with the star’s representatives, according to Edu Aguirre.
Aguirre, who is a close friend of Ronaldo’s, is a journalist who made the shocking announcement on the popular Spanish football show ‘El Chiringuito’ in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Should that be the case, Real Madrid will welcome back arguably the greatest player in their fabled history. It’s a win-win for everybody. Ronaldo can challenge for European titles again, and Ancelotti gets to reunite with the star that led his team to the Champions League in 2014.
How could they line up?
Thibaut Courtois will continue in goal no matter what formation Ancelotti uses in Spain. With no Sergio Ramos or Raphael Varane gone, David Alaba is almost certainly a guaranteed starter in central defense. Joining the former Bayern Munich man could be Eder Militao and Nacho Fernandez.
Despite Marcelo replacing Ramos as captain, Mendy could still get the nod as Ancelotti’s first-choice left-back. Dani Carvajal, meanwhile, should have no problems at right-back once he recovers from a muscle injury.
As for the midfield, Casemiro is untouchable. Luka Modric and Toni Kroos will almost certainly be regular starters. Then it’s on to the interesting part as Ancelotti decides how to use Ronaldo.
4-3-3 formation
What better way to start things off than by bringing back the old reliable ‘BBC’ attacking trio? Gareth Bale is back from a loan spell at Tottenham and Karim Benzema is going strong. No doubt Ancelotti and Ronaldo would relish getting the gang back together.
4-4-2 diamond formation
Benzema is arguably the best attacking partner Ronaldo has ever had. The Frenchman often dropped deep to draw defenders to him to open up space for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in the past.
Using the traditional 4-4-2, Ronaldo could reunite with his old teammate in a two-man attack. Eden Hazard and Bale could support the duo down the flanks, while Luka Modric could come in from behind.
3-5-2 formation
To hammer in the goals, Ancelotti could try a 3-5-2 to draw out more attackers. Ronaldo and Benzema would again lead the attack, with Hazard and Bale down the flanks once more.
With three central midfielders for support, Ronaldo could have an easier time in front of the goal but Real Madrid might be a little exposed in defense.
