The former Real Madrid captain has sent Raphael Varane a special message ahead of the defender’s move to Manchester United.
Sergio Ramos has wished Raphael Varane all the best as the Frenchman completes his move to Manchester United.
The Red Devils confirmed an agreement in principle with Real Madrid to sign Varane on Tuesday evening. The deal is reportedly worth £41 million-plus add-ons subject to a medical.
Should the deal go through, Varane will become the third Real Madrid player to leave this summer after Brahim Diaz and Ramos. The latter ended a 16-year spell to join Paris Saint-Germain for free. In that time, he formed a solid defensive partnership with Varane to help the club win many trophies, including four Champions League titles.
“Dear Rapha, I can only thank you for these years of friendship, companionship, and triumphs, and wish you luck in a new stage that will surely be exciting,’ Ramos wrote on Instagram Stories.
“If we face each other, always with the team of your country, right? Take care.”
Varane’s departure leaves a gaping hole in the Real Madrid backline for next season. Summer signing David Alaba is currently in quarantine after a positive COVID-19 test. That leaves Eder Militao, Nacho, and Jesus Vallejo as the club’s only recognized center-back options.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, meanwhile, has hailed Varane’s arrival at Old Trafford.
