Going on to rave about the defender, the Red Devils boss finally breaks silence on their new big-name signing.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is excited about Raphael Varane’s transfer to Manchester United, saying he “can’t wait to have” the “proven winner” in his squad.

Manchester United first showed interested in Varane while he was still in the very early stages of his career.

The former Lens man reportedly even came close to moving to Old Trafford after the then United boss Sir Alex Ferguson got personally involved in the negotiations, only to be persuaded by Zinedine Zidane into moving to Real Madrid.

Fast forward to today, and an experienced and reputed version of the same player is set to become a Red Devil. The 28-year-old center-back now just needs to sort his visas and quarantine before having a medical to finalize his transfer.

“Of course, I’m very happy that we’ve managed to get a deal with Real Madrid,” stated Solskjaer, via MEN.

“He’s a proven winner, a player we’ve followed for many, many years, Sir Alex was very close to signing him, this time around, we’ve got him at the other end of his career, he’s proved what a good person he is, professional and he’s won there.

“With him in, we’ve got different ways of playing as well. I can see different ways of playing with Raphael, I can’t wait to get him in, hopefully we can get him in as soon as.

“From what I know, the club is working on the quickest possible solution to get everything sorted [for the medical]. I don’t know the timescale yet, there’s a visa coming into England now with Brexit and quarantining, everything has to be done as quickly as possible and by the book.

“Raphael is into is in his prime, he’s the same age as Harry [Maguire], a year older than Eric and a couple years older than Victor [Lindelof], so there I’ve got a fantastic group of centre-backs.”
