Atletico Madrid president talks about Griezmann’s swap deal

As both clubs go towards the second week of negotiations, Atletico Madrid president discussed Antoine Griezmann’s swap deal for Saul.

Atletico Madrid has been negotiating a possible swap deal with FC Barcelona for Antoine Griezmann. Initially, the Catalan club wanted Saul to be the player who arrives at the Catalan club as Antoine’s replacement. However, they started shifting their attention towards Joao Felix at the end of the week. This decision to pursue the Portuguese youngster nearly scared Atletico Madrid off.

But apparently, Diego Simeone definitely wants Griezmann back to his squad in order to perpetuate his club’s La Liga dominance. Hence why the negotiations are still ongoing during this second week. Enrique Cerezo just spoke to the press about this situation and he didn’t deny trying to get Griezmann back. In fact, he pretty much confirmed both clubs are doing everything possible for the deal to happen. If the French forward returns to the Colchoneros, they will virtually become unstoppable.

Cerezo’s response to interest for Joao Felix.

We need to keep in mind that when Griezmann signed for FC Barcelona, that money went directly to Benfica as payment for Joao Felix’s transfer. Getting rid of a player that expensive won’t be easy for the club from the Spanish capital. Cerezo and Simeone consider this player as a crucial part of the club’s future due to his level of skills and youth. When asked about the entire possible deal by Goal, this is what Cerezo told the media: “I have no idea, they haven’t told me anything, I don’t know anything.

“I do not know how the negotiations are, not even if there are any, but there is time left for you to know what is going to happen. In the world of football everything is possible but in the Griezmann’s case I have no idea, nor have I asked. Joao is an Atletico Madrid player, has a long-term contract and is one of the leading figures in European football.”
