Despite Portugal’s early exit from Euro 2020, Cristiano Ronaldo remains top of UEFA’s player rankings in this top 20 list.

UEFA’s FedEx Performance Zone player rankings continues to rank Cristiano Ronaldo as Euro 2020’s best player.

Ronaldo hammered home five goals and an assist in his four Euro 2020 appearances. The 36-year-old’s contributions made up 86% of Portugal’s seven goals in the competition. It wasn’t enough to keep the title holders in the tournament, but a first MVP award in the Euros may still come CR7’s way.

According to UEFA, Ronaldo has a 4102 points lead over Czech Republic striker Patrik Schick. Joakim Maehle (Denmark), Marco Verratti (Italy), and Andriy Yarmolenko (Ukraine) round off the top five.

How does UEFA calculate these rankings?

UEFA assigns each player to one position only and uses it to calculate all its data for the rankings using a specific set of rules.

A goalkeeper, for example, would win points for the number of clean sheets or saves he makes in Euro 2020. A defender would also score points for clean sheets, as well as tackles and other important defensive contributions. While forwards and midfielders would be judged on the goals, assists, key passes, and crosses etc.

How many games are there left in Euro 2020?

There are only three more games left in Euro 2020, two semi-finals and the final itself. Italy and Spain meet in the first semi-final match on Tuesday night in London before England take on Denmark at the same venue a day later. The winners of the two above-mentioned ties will meet in the final this Sunday at Wembley.
