After getting kicked out of the Euro 2020 with Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo had a heart-felt reaction knowing this was his last contest.

Cristiano Ronaldo certainly left his mark at the Euro 2020 with Portugal, but he couldn’t take them any further. Knowing he would have a tough time playing against Belgium, he also soon realized this was definitely his last European Championship as a player. Cristiano became the tournament’s all-time top scorer and football’s all-time top scorer with any national team. If we were talking about a different player, that would be more than enough for him in this tournament.

But Ronaldo is a different type of animal, he always wants to win everything. In hindsight, the great culprit of this latest defeat is not Cristiano at all. Actually, Fernando Santos made some decisions that cost Portugal the tournament. But after all, the Portuguese star leaves this competition happy about his personal performance. Although he wasn’t able to get his country that silverware, Cristiano still has his sights set on the 2022 World Cup with everything that entails for him as a veteran.

Ronaldo’s message to all his supporters.

Right after the match, there are two specific moments we must talk about with Ronaldo. First, Romelu Lukaku had a great moment with the Portuguese star where they appeared to praise each other. But right before leaving the pitch, there was a moment Cristiano kicked the captain’s armband again as he’s done it in the past. Some might not like this gesture that’s becoming more common. But the ones who know how Ronaldo’s mind works, are perfectly aware that this is only another proof of his competitive nature.

After the match, the star posted an Instagram message where he analyzed Portugal’s performance at the Euro 2020. This is what he wrote on his official page: “We didn’t get the result we wanted, but we’re proud of our journey, we gave everything to defend the title. We left the competition earlier than we wanted. The fans were tireless supporting the team from start to finish and we ran and fought for them, to live up to the trust they placed in us.”
