Awful news for FC Barcelona and France, as we finally got an update on Ousmane Dembele’s latest injury setback after his tests.

Ousmane Dembele was declared unable to continue playing for France yesterday after the knee issue he suffered during the match against Hungary. We needed to wait for the proper tests to take place but the expectation was already alarming. As we feared, FC Barcelona just announced Ousmane Dembele will have to undergo surgery. As it turns out, the French forward suffered a serious issue on the tendon that connects to one of his knees. To those you know about tendon issues, these usually take at least four months to heal.

However, there are some cases in which getting back to top form can take even more time than expected. This setback comes at a delicate time for Dembele, who expected to sort out his contract at the club. Barcelona won’t be able to either sell the player or extend his contract for as long as he remains injured. If this hadn’t happened, we could probably talk about a possible exit from the club with Dembele as part of a trade.

Barcelona’s announcement.

After the French Football Federation confirmed the injury, FC Barcelona issued their statement through their official website: “Ousmane Dembélé will need surgical treatment Tests have confirmed that he has a dislocation of the biceps tendon in his right knee. Following tests this morning on player Ousmane Dembélé, it has been confirmed that he has a dislocation of the biceps tendon in his right knee that will require surgical treatment.

“The French player is therefore out of Euro 2020, as confirmed this Monday by the French team. Barça’s No.11 had taken part -from the bench- in France’s first two European Championship games and was injured in the second of them, played last Saturday in Budapest against Hungary. Dembélé played a total of 44 games this season under Ronald Koeman, in which he has scored 11 goals.”
