France manager Didier Deschamps rose to Karim Benzema’s defense after the striker drew another blank in the team’s latest Euro 2020 outing.

Didier Deschamps insists Karim Benzema is unmoved by his struggles to score for France and retains his full confidence.

The Real Madrid striker’s wait for a first international goal since August 2015 continued on Saturday following France’s 1-1 draw at Hungary in a Euro 2020 showdown.

Despite troubling the Hungarian defense with some superb movement, Benzema lacked his usual prolific touch in front of the goal. He has now gone eight matches without a goal in the European Championship, despite having taken 30 shots.

“Benzema has a lot of experience and he will have no doubts about himself”, said France manager Deschamps as per Goal.

“He has done very good things, but he has lacked a goal. He knows people want him to score, but he knows it’s just about that. He is a striker that needs to score but the essential thing is that he has confidence and that he knows he has mine.”

It instead took a 66th-minute equalizer from Antoine Griezmann to salvage a point in Budapest, while Olivier Giroud replaced Benzema in the final 14 minutes of the match.

France next play Portugal on Wednesday for their Group F finale in Budapest once more.
