The Sky Blues are just one step away from making it to the finals of the Champions League for the very first time in their history.
John Stones is feeling optimistic about Manchester City’s chances of overcoming Paris Saint-Germain in their upcoming meeting and progressing past the Champions League semi-finals stage.
Man City beat PSG 2-1 in the semi-final first-leg at Parc des Princes. Kevin De Bruyne canceled out Marquinhos’ header while Riyad Mahrez scored the winning goal.
The two teams now meet again at the Etihad on Tuesday for the second leg, with the Ligue 1 champions needing to score at least twice to avoid an exit from Europe.
A 1-0 loss for the Sky Blues would also see them reach their first-ever Champions League final, but Stones insists his side will be searching for a victory.
“We go into the game tomorrow to win it,” the English defender told the official club website. “That’s our mindset over the past five years I’ve been here. Be who we are, playing the way we do.
“If it doesn’t work out, we can hold our heads high and know we’ve been ourselves and shown our identity.
“But I am very confident in the lads and their ability, desire, belief in what we know we can do. I am confident we can go through and make the next step and make history for this club.
“We have to go into the game how we left off in the second half in Paris. It was a great result for us coming away from Paris with two away goals.
“We are excited for the challenge ahead. We have to be confident in our ability to do it again.”
