Man United boss Ole Solskjaer singled out Rashford and Fernandes for their impact following United’s Europa League victory against Granada.
Solskjaer says it was not the perfect night for United but remained pleased to see his side claim a victory against Granada. A 2-0 away victory against the La Liga side puts the Red Devils well in the ascendency ahead of the return leg at Old Trafford next week. The usual suspects of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes grabbed the goals at the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes.
Marcus Rashford gave the Red Devils the lead just past the half-hour mark. It was all so simple for United as Victor Lindelof found his forward with a sublime long-range pass.
The Englishman got there ahead of Granada’s defenders before he found the bottom corner past Rui Silva.
There were not many chances from either team in the second half. But Solskjaer’s men were handed an opportunity to double their lead late on from the penalty spot. With United looking set to win by a solitary goal, Fernandes was brought down in the area and went on to score the resulting penalty to put the game beyond doubt.
Those goals meant Manchester United became the first Premier League side to have two players score at least 20 goals in the current campaign.
Speaking after the game, Solskjaer made sure to praise the influential duo.
“It was not a perfect night. We got three yellow cards and three suspensions. 2-0 is very good result. We know how difficult it is to come to Spain. We’ve got to play well to get a result.” the United boss said to the club’s website.
“They [Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes] have been exceptional, so important for us. It was a very good run by Rashford, takes the ball fantastically. Bruno is so confident on penalties even though the keeper almost saved it.
Despite the 2-0 lead, Solskjaer adds that his side will still aim to score as much goals as possible in the return leg.
“Same as always [attitude for next week]. We want to win every game. It’s still a young team, a learning team. We have to improve all the time. Football catches you so quickly if you rest. We can’t have any other approach.”
