In what has been an unfortunate trend of late, Davinson Sanchez is the latest high-profile footballer to suffer racist abuse on social media.
Tottenham have condemned racial abuse aimed towards Davinson Sanchez following their 2-2 draw against Newcastle.
The Colombian international was at fault for Newcastle’s first goal, having lost possession in the buildup.
The Premier League clash saw Spurs drop two points as Joe Willock grabbed a late equaliser for Steve Bruce’s side at St James’ Park.
Following Spurs’ setback in their quest for Champions League qualification, Sanchez was targeted online.
The 24-year-old posted to his Instagram stories a screenshot that showed a number of monkey emojis and captioned it “nothing changes” with a sleepy emoji.
Tottenham moved to condemn the abuse via their social media platforms, stating: “We are disgusted by the racist messages received by Davinson Sanchez today and are calling on social media platforms to take action.
“We stand with you, @daosanchez26, and all those continuing to suffer abuse online.”
The abuse that Sanchez received was about the third incident in as many days.
Swansea City’s Jamal Lowe was targeted on Friday before Callum Robinson suffered the same after West Brom’s impressive 5-2 win over Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Thierry Henry recently announced that he was leaving social media until social media platforms take more responsibility for the actions of their users.
