The Juventus boss has responded to transfer rumors linking Ronaldo with an exit following the club’s Champions League exit.
Andrea Pirlo believes it is ‘natural’ rumors have circulated over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future recently, but he insists the forward has ‘more than proved his worth’ to Juventus.
Despite supplying 92 goals and 22 assists in only 121 appearances, Ronaldo’s impact has been questioned. His inability to help Juventus succeed in Europe has led to a lot of criticism – especially after the defeat to Porto this week.
The club’s latest failed attempt to win the Champions League has stirred rumors of a summer exit for Ronaldo, with former club Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain being touted as potential destinations.
“Ronaldo is fine,” said Juventus manager Pirlo in a press conference ahead of Sunday’s trip to Cagliari.
“It’s natural that he’s disappointed by what happened the other night in the Champions League, he trained very well and has recovered to play tomorrow against Cagliari.
“It’s natural there are rumors after the elimination, he’s the most important player in the world alongside Leo Messi.
“He has always done well for us, scoring 90-odd goals and he has more than proved his worth.”
