Let’s take a look at the player ratings of this Premier League battle between Southampton and Chelsea at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Southampton had a visit from Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in this Premier League clash at the St. Mary’s Stadium. The Saints were under complete pressure because of the six-game losing streak in the English top-tier. It seems as if Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men are feeling a slight hint of relegation as they slip way further in the bottom half of the table. Nevertheless, Southampton hoped to set things right with the challenging side from London.

On the other hand, the Blues are back in form with the new boss getting five wins in a row across all competitions. Chelsea now looks to get back in contention for the Champions League spot for the next season. With a 2-0 home win against Newcastle last time out, Tuchel’s men saw a great opportunity to overpower the struggling hosts. However, the locals got the better of their opponents and scored the opening goal with the help of the new man Takumi Minamino.

Mount rescues two points with the spot kick.

Even though both the halves were controlled by the dominant Chelsea side, Southampton managed to take the lead before the halftime whistle. But the in-form Saints striker Danny Ings brought down Mason Mount in the goalkeeper’s box, and the ref had no doubt regarding the penalty.

The 22-year-old England international made no mistake as he took charge of the penalty kick. He tucked a low shot straight in the bottom-right corner past the helpless Alex McCarthy. Both sides pushed for the breakthrough but could not find the net until the end of the 90 minutes. What this means is Southampton end their losing streak with one point in hand. And Chelsea sits fourth on the Premier League table behind Leicester City.
