The former Italy international has been placed under house arrest after being found with over two kilos of the illegal product.

Luigi Sartor, who played for a number of Serie A teams such as Inter, Parma, Roma, and Juventus, was placed under house arrest last Friday. According to the Italian press, local authorities found 106 marijuana plants at the 46-year-old’s greenhouse.

In fact, La Gazzetta Dello Sport claims the police were tipped off due to a strange smell at Sartor’s cottage. Moreover, the agents found him alongside former Parma teammate Marco Mantovani while taking care of the cannabis plants. It was estimated that their illegal plantation could’ve generated over two kilos of marijuana. Therefore, the practice sparked rumors of an intent to sell and distribute.

Additionally, this wasn’t the first time Luigi Sartor ran into trouble with the police. In fact, the former Parma defender was arrested back in 2011. Sartor was involved in a scandal of match-fixing known as Calcioscommesse.

Sartor will now await further instructions as the investigations proceed. The player has been granted the right to remain under house arrest. Moreover, the former footballer decided to use his right to remain silent in front of the judge. Nevertheless, Sartor will face charges of drug possession and trafficking.
