The International Federation of Football History & Statistics has sprung a potential GOAT decider in naming the 10 best players of the decade.
Lionel Messi has been voted as the IFFHS Player of the Decade, with long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo and former Barcelona teammate Andres Iniesta completing the top three.
The IFFHS had members from over 150 countries across the world vote for their top players between 2011 and 2020.
To nobody’s surprise, Messi and Ronaldo occupy the top two spots. The pair have dominated football in terms of goals and awards for the last decade, entering the history books like none before them.
Iniesta, who currently plays for Japanese side Vissel Kobe after leaving Barcelona in 2018, took third in the IFFHS list. Neymar, Sergio Ramos, Manuel Neuer, and Robert Lewandowski completed the top seven.
Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who recently celebrated his 43rd birthday, pipped AC Milan’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic into eighth, with Real Madrid midfielder and 2018 Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric rounding off the top 10.
