During his chat with Ibai, Gerard Pique strangely praised Real Madrid’s president when he was questioned about the whole Sergio Ramos situation.
Gerard Pique rarely praises Real Madrid but he did make an exception with their president, Florentino Perez. The odd moment happened during the Barcelona player’s conversation with streamer Ibai Llanos. There was a moment in which he flat out stated that he believes Perez does an excellent job at managing Real Madrid. A comment that comes during the same chat in which he opened up about his issues with Josep Maria Bartomeu.
As the former Barcelona president kept making mistakes against the players, Gerard Pique began to realize his lack of leadership. With Florentino Perez, Pique sees what he fails to spot on his former chairman. The defender even went further and used the example of Sergio Ramos’s stalled contract extension to praise Florentino.
Pique sends an indirect hit to Bartomeu.
In his response to Ibai’s questions about Florentino’s job as a president, Pique said: “I also try to learn from other clubs. Even Florentino is doing a great job as Real Madrid’s president. Then you have the other aspects that we’ll discuss later. I believe the president has to be a leader and the one who calls the shots above all. After that, you can either like or dislike his decisions. But you have a person there who has a gift to command and tell you things as they come.
“Once that much is clear, you can agree or not with the decision to renew your contract or not. In the end, Real Madrid’s associates are the ones invested in this topic. Each can have their own opinion on the matter. At least he shows he has a good idea, he knows where he is going. This doesn’t only happens with Ramos, it also happened with Cristiano back in the day. It can happen with any type of player. That is something positive we need to value. Florentino has leading qualities that Bartomeu didn’t have. We are all different, everyone is different.”
