During his latest press conference, Pep Guardiola opened up about his love for the days when he still played football. Does he miss them?

Any former footballer like Pep Guardiola will tell you how much they loved playing the game and enjoying those days. The life of an elite athlete is arguably amongst those typical dream jobs that any sane person would love to have. Pep Guardiola’s case is quite unique due to the wild success he had as a player. When he started his career, the Manchester City gaffer won his club’s first-ever Champions League almost immediately.

After that, he became one of the best midfielders in the world with an impressive career at a club level. However, his run as a manager has been incredibly more successful than during his days as a player. We all know the many titles he won in three different countries. But you’ll never get the football out of the footballer. Pep misses playing the game more than anything.

The reason Guardiola misses playing football.

In the most recent interview via Manchester City’s website, Guardiola opened up: “The pleasure for the players is incomparable – I would change right now to be a player. As a player you share it with your mates, the moments in the training session, and the locker room. The manager has his staff and it is OK but you celebrate it in a different way. In the 90 minutes, we can shout and move our arms but our influence is so minimal.

“I had the feeling when I had the ball at my feet that I could control the game, I can decide what is happening. Outside you cannot. The pleasure to play is incomparable to being a manager. It is a way to continue to be involved in this lovely game on the other side but I would change right now to have 20 years less and still play football.”
