The titleholders, who now have no senior centre-backs available, must act fast in the transfer market with the deadline fast approaching.
Jurgen Klopp suggests Liverpool could dip into the January transfer market to sign a new centre-back after the injury to Joel Matip.
Liverpool’s already worrisome injury crisis worsened on Thursday when Matip was forced off in the first half of the 3-1 victory against Tottenham after damaging his ankle ligaments.
The Cameroonian was pairing captain Jordan Henderson in central defence as Klopp opted for another makeshift backline with Fabinho also ruled out with a muscle problem.
“The only problem is Joel Matip is injured, it’s a massive problem,” Klopp said post-match, via The Mirror.
Liverpool now have no senior centre-backs available and must act fast if they want to bring in a new face as the January transfer window slams shut on Monday.
When asked about a potential new signing, Klopp responded: “We think about everything, as you can imagine. We think about everything the whole time.
“We try to do the right thing and we have to do the right thing. I am not picky but we need to find the right player.
“We have players still, but it’s incredible what’s happening in defence.”
