In the middle of the game between Tottenham and Liverpool, Rio Ferdinand explained the reason he feels sorry for Thiago Alcantara.

Thiago Alcantara’s tactical situation was just described by Rio Ferdinand perfectly in the middle of the Tottenham vs Liverpool match. The Premier League had a crunch game today between both clubs with Thiago Alcantara featuring. When Jurgen Klopp requested his transfer, it was evident he wanted the midfielder to occupy a position similar to his role at Bayern Munich.

But the current season is striking Liverpool’s players quite hard in regards to injuries. This forced Klopp’s hand as he decided to use Thiago in different positions. In fact, Thiago was also one of the players who fell injured quite early in the season. But other midfield players like Wijnaldum, Henderson, or Fabinho are pushing Alcantara to a whole new role. Rio Ferdinand can’t help but feel sorry for the Barcelona academy product.

Ferdinand nails Thiago’s current situation.

In a statement picked up by The Mirror, Ferdinand responded if he thinks Thiago is good for Liverpool: “One hundred percent in certain aspects. You see with the ball he’s just so easy on the eye. The game looks so easy to him. He manipulates the ball as well as anybody on the planet. His range of passing is superb. He brings something different in terms of creativity and being able to conduct a game. But then you lose something, maybe, in the physical aspect.

“Liverpool’s foundations of winning in the past two years has been that engine room in the midfield of Henderson, Wijnaldum, and Fabinho. Working hard and giving it to the strikers. He’s that little dimension that’s slightly different that Klopp’s trying to introduce into this team. I feel sorry for him in many respects in that he’s come into a team that has been dismantled through injuries. He’s having to fill in, had his own injuries as well which isn’t always good. Coming to a new club, new culture, new country – so difficult. No matter how experiences you are. He’s had his hands on every trophy available as a player. It’s difficult for him.”
