Contrary to other managers, Jose Mourinho explained why he doesn’t have a friendship with Jurgen Klopp in English football. Interesting.
Jose Mourinho is not one who tends to make friends in professional football, especially with managers who are his direct rivals. When he was coaching in the Spanish La Liga, he wasn’t very good friends with the likes of Pep Guardiola or ‘Cholo’ Simeone. During his first tenure at Chelsea, we all remember his rivalry with Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.
Today, he coaches Tottenham and he doesn’t really have friends in the Premier League. Recently, he spoke about the non-existent friendship there is with Jurgen Klopp. In context, the Portuguese manager does keep a close relationship with Nuno Espirito Santo from Wolves. But they have a history together from their time in the Portuguese league.
How Mourinho explains his non-friendship with Klopp.
When asked if he kept a close friendship with Jurgen, Jose Mourinho didn’t hint at having a bad relationship. In fact, Mourinho has nothing but respect for the German manager. His statements were picked up by the Liverpool Echo: “I’m not a friend of Jurgen as I never had time with Jurgen. “Nuno, he was my player. Brendan worked in my club for a couple of years together.
“So when you have something in common, when you know the person well, you can say ‘I like him, he’s my friend’ or ‘I don’t like him, he’s not my friend’. With Jurgen, it’s five minutes before a match, five minutes after a match. What can I say about Jurgen? He’s a colleague that I respect, that I don’t have any problem with. He’s the same with me, no problems at all.”
