Liverpool have their eyes set on one of Derby County’s biggest young talents, who was also targeted by Manchester United.

Kaide Gordon is a 16-year-old forward who recently played his first game with the senior squad at Derby County. The young Ram joined the first-team after his impressive performances with the Under 18’s side. After a few weeks of training alongside the senior players, Gordon impressed new manager Wayne Rooney enough to earn him his Championship debut.

“I brought Kaide up with the first team initially to train with us for a week to see how he reacted to it, and he was one of the best trainers,” said Rooney.

“I kept him with us for a couple of weeks and he’s been training at the same level – if not to a better level – than a lot of the other players. I spoke to the players and said ‘if you train hard and you train well, I’ll give you your chance’. He deserves it.”

According to Sky Sports, Gordon can join the Reds as early as this week. Liverpool are willing to pay a €3 million fee for the player. However, the 16-year-old is expected to join the academy side for now. Additionally, Manchester United were also reportedly interested in the young talent. Nevertheless, it looks like the Red Devils were beat by their rivals in the race for Kaide’s signing.

Moreover, Wayne Rooney had recently spoken about the recent reports that suggested the forward could be leaving Derby County soon.

“Kaide is a fantastic player. I think he’s got a lot of potential, he’s obviously come through the academy. He’s 16 years of age, he’s got a lot of developing to do and he’s definitely at the right place to do that.”
