During Barcelona’s game against Cornella, Riqui Puig received a yellow card after arguing with the match’s referee.
Nowadays, with the technology we have available, it’s tough for any moment of a football game to go unnoticed. In fact, we often see players, managers, and referees covering up their lips to prevent their conversations from being picked up.
However, one particular camera managed to pick up an interesting conversation at this Thursday’s Copa del Rey clash between Cornella and Barcelona. 21-year-old midfielder Riqui Puig and referee Soto Grado were seen exchanging some heated remarks for unknown reasons.
Puig approaches the referee and tells him to speak to him in the proper manner. Moreover, the Barcelona youngster told Grado to approach him with respect. Naturally, the 40-year-old ref didn’t appreciate the player’s remarks and warned Puig not to yell at him. Despite this, the young midfielder doesn’t back down and tells Soto Grado, “I can tell you the same thing.”
Riqui’s last remark was more than enough to upset the referee, who immediately stopped the play and approached the Barca man. Additionally, Grado showed a yellow card to the 21-year-old, showing the player who had the higher ground. Moreover, Ronald Koeman decided to substitute Puig at half-time due to his early booking.
