Marc-Andre ter Stegen reveals he had not studied the penalties before the start of the Supercopa semi-final with Real Sociedad last night.

German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was the star of the night as Barcelona oversaw Sociedad last evening to reach the Supercopa final.

The Catalans’ number 1 put on a show at Stadio Nuevo Arcangel in Cordoba.

First, he kept his team alive in the regular and the extra time period with a couple of vital saves. Then, he saved two penalties to guide Barca to a 3-2 victory in the penalty shootout.

Ter Stegen, however, reveals that he had not studied the Sociedad players’ shooting habits before the start of the semi-final.

“The truth is we hadn’t studied them that much on penalties,” Ter Stegen admitted in his post-match interview, via Marca.

“In the first 25 minutes they pressed us a lot. Then we found more space and, towards the end, they had trouble pressing.

“The victory is well deserved. They had a few more chances in extra time but we won, which is what we had to do.”

The Spanish Super Cup final is scheduled for Sunday, January 17. Barcelona will face either Real Madrid or Athletic Bilbao in Seville.
