Prior to the game against Burnley at Turf Moor, Paul Pogba knew Manchester United had a difficult game lying in wait ahead.
Just as he had anticipated, Paul Pogba knew United needed to go the extra mile to get a result against Burnley on Tuesday night.
Burnley are renowned for having one of the most ‘stubborn’ defences in the Premier League. Indeed, they made the Red Devils work extra hard for the three points at Turf Moor.
It took a second-half effort from Pogba to separate both sides after ninety minutes.
It might only be the second Premier League goal of the season for the Frenchman. However, it proved to be a crucial one with many possible implications for the future.
Pogba has now called on his side to maintain their focus after moving three points clear ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League standings.
Speaking after the game, the 27-year-old said to the club’s website: “We knew it would be difficult, we knew it. Always when you come here, you know it’s going to be a war.”
“You need to keep calm and we did this. It was very hard in the first half and then in the second half we came out with the good mentality and we got the goal. We got the result that we wanted.”
Harry Maguire saw his goal chalked off after a VAR review and Pogba felt the goal should have been allowed to stand.
“It was a goal for sure. I don’t know, he just jumped before [the defender], he headed, it was a beautiful goal and then the referee decided that [it was a foul]. It was a strange decision, but we got the result that we wanted so we’re happy.”
“Today proved that we are really focused. That’s how we improve, that’s how we get better. Our heads are focused on the league and we need to keep it up and keep going.”
