A La Masia product has struggled to make a place for himself in the team under the Dutch manager and is now destined for a departure.
Carlos Alena has been given the green light by manager Ronald Koeman to quit FC Barcelona.
Alena finds himself deep down in the pecking order at Camp Nou due to intense competition from the likes of Sergio Busquets, Miralem Pjanic, and Frenkie De Jong.
The 23-year-old has been restricted to less than an hour of action in La Liga this season. Rumors of a loan move away have been surfacing over the last couple of days.
Getafe president recently confirmed their interest in the player who spent the second half of 2019-20 on loan at Real Betis.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Athletic Bilbao, Koeman confirmed that Alena is in search of pastures new.
“Alena has permission from the club to seek his exit,” the Barcelona boss told a news conference, as per beIN SPORTS.
“When everything is done, I will be able to give an opinion, but there are players who can decide to stay or not. He has decided to seek his exit.”
