Manchester City has released an official statement regarding the club’s recent outbreak of Covid-19 infections within the squad.

The Citizens’ clash against Everton became the second Premier League fixture to be postponed this season due to a coronavirus outbreak. Manchester City had at least five positive cases confirmed in the last week, including players Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker.

The Sky Blues are scheduled to face Chelsea next Sunday. Therefore, their representatives have issued a statement clarifying the situation at the club.

“Manchester City FC can confirm that first-team training will resume at City Football Academy this afternoon. The full Covid-19 bubble underwent testing yesterday, and results have revealed no new positive cases.”

Moreover, the Citizens assured that all safety measures will continue in place. In fact, the City Football Academy received a deep cleaning before only partly reopening.

“Safety remains our number one priority, and the Club will continue to proceed with great caution. The first team training buildings have undergone a deep clean over the past 48 hours, and the majority of these facilities will remain closed, with only essential operations around training resuming.”

Additionally, it’s clear the next round of tests will determine whether City’s upcoming fixtures can take place as scheduled. The Sky Blues should face Chelsea and Manchester United in the next week.

“The bubble will undergo further testing in the coming days, the results of which will inform and dictate the next steps. Everyone at Manchester City continues to wish speedy recoveries to all of our colleagues who remain in self-isolation following their positive tests.”
