Ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup Quarterfinals, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke about Manchester United’s actual title chances.
Manchester United has been on the rise in recent weeks under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They are fresh out of a historic 6-2 victory against Leeds United in the Premier League and ranked in Champions League positions. With the level they have been showing this season, it’s only natural the excitement is back at the club from Old Trafford. Although they have been filled with contrasts this season due to varied results, United is still confident on what they can accomplish.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trusting the players he has in order to have a shot at winning some silverware this season. One of the tournaments they might be able to win is the League Cup. A competition in which they are currently installed in the quarterfinals to play Everton on Wednesday. Should they win this match, they will get to the semifinals and possibly get a shot at the title.
Solskjaer trusts his players can win trophies.
“We were disappointed that we didn’t get to a final or lift a trophy but that’s the next step for these players now,” Solskjaer told ESPN. “I think everyone felt how close we were and the mood, the spirit and the culture has improved since then. And the belief. Definitely the belief has grown. It’s always an important step for any team or any player to win a trophy.
“That’s something we’re aiming for. We’ve got to make changes [for the Everton game] and we’ve got to freshen it up but the team will be a fresh one which I think can give Everton some problems. The League Cup is also, and always has been, a chance for the players who have not really played the last few league games to get more game time. It’s a big one for the squad to feel that you’re valued if you’re maybe not playing every single league game.”
