For all the hype that surrounded his return, Frank McAvennie is surprised Gareth Bale isn’t a regular for Spurs in the Premier League.

Gareth Bale getting little to no game time in the Premier League is something that has left Frank McAvennie baffled.

The former West Ham and Celtic forward says he was looking forward to a front trio of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and the Welshman.

In all fairness, much was made about Bale joining a star forward that already boasted Kane and Son.

Fast forward to date, and the on-loan Real Madrid star only has one league start and 129 minutes of top-flight football to his name.

Bale has mostly featured for Spurs in the Europa League where he has started all their games.

Despite the experience boasted by the Welshman, Mourinho has overlooked him and even prefers Bergwijn in the attacking fold.

Frank McAvennie admits he is a bit surprised to see Bale get such treatment but adds that he has no issues if Spurs keep winning games in his ‘absence’.

“I do not get it,” McAvennie said in an interview with Football Insider.

“I really do not understand it. I thought we were going to see the front three of Kane, Son and Bale every week. I do not understand why he is not playing him in the Premier League.”

“But listen, they are playing well and the main thing is that they are playing to Mourinho’s strengths and then even then they have been fantastic going forward.”

“I hate to say it but they are putting a challenge in this season.”
