Ace Football previews the Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Lokomotiv Moscow, and offers betting tips, odds, line-ups, and team news.
Bayern Munich will cap off their Group A campaign in the Champions League with one last match against Lokomotiv Moscow on Wednesday night.
The title holders sealed their spot in the last-16, and as Group A winners, after just four games. They currently sit 10 points above bottom-placed side Lokomotiv, who can still finish third and qualify for the Europa League knockouts.
The Russians won’t be short of motivation for this one and plan to capitalise on the rotations their foes will probably make, but will that be enough? As Bayern proved last week, they’ve got some pretty decent reserves.
Bayern Munich Form & Stats
Hansi Flick selected a mixture of youth and experience for last week’s trip to Atletico Madrid. The 1-1 draw may have ended a run of 15 consecutive Champions League wins, but the point was a solid result in the Spanish capital.
The Bavarians boss, though, refused to confirm whether he’ll adopt a similar approach for Lokomotiv in his pre-match conference. He clarified that victory is the aim, along with extending the club’s unbeaten record to 17 games in the competition.
Bayern may be a little short in midfield options as Joshua Kimmich, Corentin Tolisso and Javi Martinez are out. But this could give Marc Roca, Jamal Musiala, Angelo Stiller, or Maximilian Zaiser a chance alongside Leon Goretzka – should the German start, of course.
Robert Lewandowski is also expected to miss the match after reportedly sustaining a minor injury. The Pole, though, should be available for the trip to Union Berlin on Saturday. While Alphonso Davies could feature after recovering from injury.
The European and Bundesliga champions, meanwhile, drew 3-3 with RB Leipzig over the weekend. They’ve now failed to keep a clean sheet in their last nine games, but are on a 15-match unbeaten run in all competitions (W12 D3).
Key Team Stats
- Unbeaten in their last 15 games in all competitions (W12 D3).
- Won 15 of their last 16 Champions League games.
- First-half goal scored in each of their last 18 games in a row in all competitions.
- Scored a second-half goal in their last seven games in all competitions.
- BTTS in their last nine games in all competitions.
Lokomotiv Moscow Form & Stats
A 3-1 home defeat to RB Salzburg last week may have cost Lokomotiv dearly. They’re now bottom in Group A, lost their chance of overhauling Atletico Madrid for the last knockout spot, and sit a point behind third-place Salzburg.
Having won none of their five group games this season (D3 L2), Lokomotiv must beat Bayern. Even if they draw, and Salzburg lose to Atletico, they will cannot finish third because of an inferior win count. The Russian club, therefore, won’t qualify for a spot in the Europa League knockout rounds.
Marko Nikolic is, however, upbeat over his side’s chances of pulling off an upset at the Allianz Arena. The Lokomotiv coach made it clear in his pre-match conference that his players will fight to the last second.
But the three-time Russian champions, who defeated Rubin Kazan 3-1 over the weekend, have lost several players to injuries. They’re also winless in their last 10 Champions League games (D3 L7), and failed to win their last five away games in all competitions (D3 L2).
Key Team Stats
- Failed to win their last 10 Champions League games (D3 L7).
- Failed to win their last five away games in all competitions (D3 L2).
- BTTS in four of their five Champions League games this season.
- Won a penalty in two of their last three Champions League games.
