Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid needed a victory against Bayern Munich tonight at the Metropolitano. We got the player ratings.

Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid met for the second time this season. This time, the game was held at the Metropolitano in the city of Madrid. After the 4-0 defeat in Munich during the start of the season, Diego Simeone wanted to prove he has the most competitive Spanish club by beating the powerful German giants. Initially, they controlled the game throughout 84 minutes and got ahead on the scoreboard with a great goal from Joao Felix.

The young Portuguese player delivered another stellar performance as he keeps proving he is one of the best players in Europe this season. Scoring against Bayern Munich is a luxury very few players in the world can have at the moment. Regardless of this massive effort from the Colchoneros, underestimating Bayern Munich is a terrible mistake.

Gimenez’s injury was key for Bayern.

Jose Maria Gimenez was arguably the most solid player on Atletico Madrid’s defense, he got injured during the second half and Felipe had to replace him. Minutes after this, the Brazilian defender committed a foul on Thomas Muller inside the box. The German forward claimed the penalty and scored the equalizer.

With this result, Atletico Madrid will have to fight for the win during the final game of the group stage. The UEFA Champions League proves we are getting an extremely competitive season despite the injury crisis. Bayern already has a secured first place in the group and Atletico needs a win against Salzburg during the final game next week.
