Manchester City’s goalkeeper Ederson has made some interesting revelations about how his boxing skills granted him the locker room’s respect.
There’s an unknown side to Ederson. The Brazilian’s love for boxing has helped him build a reputation inside Man City’s locker room. Moreover, the goalkeeper has collected several interesting stories to share.
In an interview for the Youtube channel ‘Pilhado’, confessed to using the Citizen’s academy to improve his boxing skills. Additionally, his countryman Gabriel Jesus claimed his teammates are afraid of Ederson.
“The lads already complained I punch them too hard. I have a strong right cross. It’s not fear, it’s respect. Sometimes they’re afraid to play around with me ’cause I can’t control my strength and end up exaggerating a bit.”
The interviewer challenged Ederson, telling him he would like to see him roughhouse with “big-guy” Yaya Toure. However, the 27-year-old assured him the former Man City star was one of his victims.
“One time I played with him in the locker room. I used to mess with him a lot, I had that freedom ’cause we liked each other a lot. I gave him a rear-naked choke and he said ‘Edi, Edi, stop, stop’. He was old, it weighed on him.”
Nevertheless, Gabriel Jesus may have to be careful with his words around Ederson, as the goalkeeper said his provocative behavior will cost him.
“He likes to stir things up and leave. When I chase him he always says we have an important match soon. If I get stressed one of these days he’ll see”
Finally, Ederson revealed how he got his record-breaking strength. The Brazilian shared that Julio Cesar, who was his teammate at Benfica, asked his mom what the secret was: “a lot of couscous with egg,” she answered.
