Ahead of next Saturday’s match against Fulham, Pep Guardiola wanted to hail a young starlet’s passion for football before his 21st birthday.

There are very few young players who excel under Pep Guardiola the way Phil Foden has done it since he started his career. The Catalan manager is thrilled to have such a talented young baller under his command at Manchester City.

Ahead of his 21st birthday right before facing Fulham, Foden expects to have some activity during that game in order to celebrate his birthday properly. Guardiola wanted to commend him for the level of commitment he is showing until this point. The gaffer also wanted to remind everybody he is destined to become one of Manchester City’s most important players.

But more importantly, Pep puts Foden at the same level as the best midfielders he’s ever coached when they were the same age. Honestly, Guardiola didn’t express in this manner about a player since Andres Iniesta.

What does Pep love about Foden?

Ahead of Saturday’s match against Fulham, Guardiola wanted to point out the details about Foden’s game he completely adores. He spoke to Goal about it: “We are more than delighted to have him from the Academy. The message he can give [to other young players] if you have the skills and especially passion.

“I love his passion. The only thing in his mind is to be a better player for himself, his club and his national country. In training he is a dream come true for managers. He’s so patient, normally when you become older you lose this. But he’s like a little boy when he goes on the pitch in the training session, the first thing he is looking for is the ball and to play with his mates, to pass and to shoot.

“The first achievement is 50 games, he will play much, much more in the future. Hopefully he can have the passion to improve but knowing him it will happen.”
