De Bruyne makes a gallant bet on Man City teammate Foden

Kevin de Bruyne backed his Manchester City teammate Phil Foden to reach the top summit in the footballing world.

Kevin de Bruyne has tipped his Manchester City colleague Phil Foden to become “one of the best players in the world”. The 20-year-old opened up his account for England with a double in a win over Iceland on Wednesday this week. The youngster received a call-up from Gareth Southgate again after he breached COVID19 protocols earlier. 

Foden subsequently made his first start for Three Lions after that particular incident. And with his attacking midfield role, he displayed a match-winning performance grabbing two late goals. The City youngster scored his first goal from inside the penalty box from an assist from Jadon Sancho. And the second goal was a long-range strike to put the game to bed. 

Does he have what it takes?

Foden is already considered as a successor to David Silva at the Etihad Stadium. However, Pep Guardiola is operating him from the flanks this new season. His teammate, De Bruyne, believes that his Man City teammate holds the potential to make it to the top-list of footballers in the future. Moreover, when it comes from a proficient player like De Bruyne, we must say that Foden could be special.

“He’s doing really well, Phil,” De Bruyne told ESPN.

“Phil has been with us for three-four years, he’s still a young man but he’s playing regularly. He’s playing really well, he’s evolving, so he needs to keep doing that.

“So, in a couple of years, if he goes the right way, he’ll become one of the best players in the world if he wants to.”
