Mourinho talks up unbeaten record ahead of Arsenal clash

Jose Mourinho says any record he has against Arsenal is in the ‘past’ and holds no meaning ahead of Spurs’ latest encounter with their rivals.

Jose Mourinho and Tottenham will welcome Arsenal for another crunch edition of the north London derby on Sunday in the Premier League.

The build-up to this fixture is not as it usually is with the Gunners looking all shades of inconsistent. On paper, Spurs are expected to win this one and remain at the summit of the table. In contrasting scenarios, their north London rivals are languishing in the lower half of the table.

If the above reason isn’t enough worry for Arsenal fans, there’s the Mourinho factor to worry about.

The Portuguese boss has never lost at home against Arsenal across his span in English football.

In 10 home games against Arsenal across his spells at Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham, Mourinho has a record of six wins and four draws.

However, the Spurs boss has dismissed such records, saying they can be broken anytime while using an example of his own to buttress his point.

“It means nothing for this game, it’s history and that’s it, I don’t really care,” Mourinho said as per Sky Sports.

“When I went to Newcastle the last time, the question was that I had never won in my career there and I didn’t really care about that either.”

Elsewhere, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta got praise from an unlikely source when Eric Dier dubbed him the ‘best young manager in Europe’ yesterday.

Mourinho refused to be drawn on those comments but heaped some praise on his opposite number as well.

He added: “I don’t know them all so it is very hard to say that.

“Is he (Arteta) a good coach? A talented coach? He has already won an important competition in the first few months of his career.

“We can’t deny that and to be at Arsenal you have to be good and if you are not then you are not there.

“So yes, Mikel (Arteta) is a good coach but I want to respect the others, especially the ones I don’t know well and are probably very talented.”
