But his final decision to remain at the club was merely temporary, especially due to the fact that his current club is a disaster.
There is no other way to look at Messi’s future because Barça can’t compete for titles with their current situation. Ronald Koeman hasn’t been able to put together a competitive enough squad that can convince Messi to stay. Plus, the club’s economy is at an all-time dire situation that has no way out. According to The Times, Manchester City has a whole plan to convince Messi of leaving FC Barcelona. City Football Group wants to offer him a sensational 10-year contract with the club that includes him staying as an ambassador after he retires.
This is a proposal that Pep Guardiola doesn’t approve of because his desire is for Messi to spend his whole life at the Catalan club. However, he is not the one who calls the shots and this plan will move ahead with or without him. After playing for two or three years in the Premier League, the plan is to offer Messi a retirement plan at New York City FC in the MLS.
This plan also includes offering Messi a piece of market shares to become an investor within the club. All of these plans will solely depend on what FC Barcelona does over the next six months in order to convince Leo to stay. But the way things are going, it’s likely he won’t remain a Barcelona player for much longer.
