It’s about time we took a moment to explain Lionel Messi’s low form and lack of motivation at FC Barcelona in recent weeks. This doesn’t look good.

Lionel Messi is currently not going through the best moment of his career as he experiences a low form we didn’t know from him before. In regards to numbers, Leo has only scored three La Liga goals and another three Champions League goals. With Argentina, he only scored one during the Conmebol World Cup Qualifiers.

Most of his contributions have been from the spot, which means he doesn’t get to score in open play as much as previous seasons. Don’t get us wrong, Leo is still one of the best players in the world at his lowest form. However, he is nowhere near the star we all know from the last 10 years. This situation seems to come out of an evident lack of motivation that Leo is struggling to shake off.

We know how everything has progressed for him since he decided to tell the club he wanted to leave last summer. The supporters initially believed his problem was Josep Maria Bartomeu, but Messi is out of any more excuses without the president to blame.

The fans started to question Messi in public.

After the official announcement of Messi not making the list for the upcoming Champions League match, the fans had their turn to speak. As you all know, supporters tend to wait for the players outside of the club’s training complex. They usually remain there to get either a picture or an autograph. But sometimes they stay to talk back at the players or question them for poor performances.

We never imagined Messi would be one of those players, but the unthinkable happened today. As he left the sporting complex on his SUV, one fan demanded him to giddy-up and start showing results. Jugones La Sexta reported on the exchange and showed Messi looking back at the fan in disapproval. This is the first time Leo gets on the Barcelona supporters’ bad side, something we never experienced before.

Everybody knows the star still wants to leave and he might be one step closer to do so. We can expect some type of announcement at the start of 2021, which is when he is free to negotiate with any club.
