In an effort to divide FC Barcelona, the Spanish media decided to make the club choose between two of their biggest stars through a poll.
FC Barcelona supporters were sent into a dark place yesterday after Lionel Messi landed from his international duty in Argentina. The captain is arguably the most beloved footballer in the club’s history. Fans quickly jump to defend him from anything. In this case, Antoine Griezmann is the man responsible for the star’s unhappiness at FC Barcelona.
We previously reported how Griezmann’s uncle and his former agent said some rude and indiscrete things against Leo. From the moment he left the Catalan city, all Messi hears is slander against him with no way to back those claims. But the whole situation with Griezmann has taken a turn for the worst in the last 24 hours.
It is evident that the French forward agrees with what his uncle said because there was no report of him calling Messi to apologize. Add the local media’s outrage for the utter disrespect to one of the best players in the world, and you got yourself a full-on drama.
Supporters have to choose between the two.
This is where things get a lot more dramatic. ‘El Chiringuito’ was the news outlet who broke Messi’s anger about this whole situation and they were the ones moving forward with the story’s development. Presenter Josep Pedrerol quickly stated that he would demand the club to sell Griezmann during the winter transfer window. He even ordered a poll in which supporters voted in favor of his proposal.
But the situation is more complicated than ever after today’s news of Pep Guardiola renewing his contract with Manchester City. Selling Griezmann too soon might result in the Blaugrana staying with neither of both players after the summer of 2021. Making supporters choose between them is unfair for Griezmann, who is barely starting to write his story at FC Barcelona.
