As he goes through a historic season with AC Milan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was just compared to two Rossoneri legends by Franco Baresi.
Getting someone like Franco Baresi to compare you to two of the biggest AC Milan legends of all time is quite revealing. Zlatan Ibrahimovic hasn’t won the UEFA Champions League yet but he still has better numbers than the two players he was just compared with. The former AC Milan defender is arguably one of the best ever, he also shared the dressing room with some incredible players.
During his prime with the Rossoneri, he played alongside players like Marco van Basten and Ruud Gullit. Both of these stars are Ballon d’Or recipients. They are considered amongst the Top 5 best Dutch players in football history. So, Zlatan getting compared to both of them doesn’t seem like a mistake because he is also a legend in his own right.
Baresi praises Zlatan and Maldini.
“It’s amazing what he can do, what he can pass on to his teammates. Mentally he is still a twenty-year-old,” Baresi told Sky Sport. “[Marco] Van Basten and [Ruud] Gullit had this physical strength, the same personality and he is making the difference as they used to do. Physically he is fit, mentally he wants to amaze, he is the only one who can say when it’s the right time to stop playing.”
Baresi also said some great things about Paolo Maldini: “It’s important to have people like us in the club, in order to remember history. Those who arrive are stimulated by certain figures and immediately understand the values of this club.
“Paolo was a phenomenal player and, as a director, he is demonstrating all his qualities,” Baresi added. “He is always attentive, scrupulous, competent, he wants Milan to be a protagonist in the future as we did in the past, despite the difficulties. He should be admired for what he does and for what he gives to Milan, even off the pitch.”
