Mauricio Pochettino insists he bears no ill towards the current Tottenham boss and instead has a ‘very good relationship’ with him.
After five years of service to the club, Mauricio Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham in 2019 amid a whirlwind period for the team.
Spurs sat 14th in the league following a series of undesirable results towards the final moments of the Argentine’s tenure, but the news of his dismissal still came as a surprise to many fans.
Pochettino had guided the team to a Champions League final for the first time in their history and had helped them to several top-four finishes in the Premier League.
Just hours after he was sacked, Jose Mourinho was appointed as the new head coach.
The 48-year-old, who also opened the door for a return to the English top-flight, however, holds no animosity towards the former Manchester United and Chelsea boss.
Pochettino said of Mourinho on Sky Sports: “The man who replaced me is a good friend. A manager who always treated me very well.
“When he was at Real Madrid, I remember him inviting me to a Champions League game against Ajax and we were talking in his changing room in the Bernabeu.
“I feel it is only what I can wish, because I love Tottenham and I know Jose and want the best for him, is to try to win.”
