Solskjaer explains Greenwood's absence for the PSG clash

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has set the record straight on Mason Greenwood’s absence for Manchester United amid claims it was down to disciplinary measures.

Greenwood and Brandon Williams were notable absentees in United’s 4-1 win at Newcastle over the weekend.

The pair trained with the squad on Monday ahead of their Group H opener in the Champions League away to Paris Saint-Germain. Reports emerged later, however, revealing Greenwood had been dropped. Harry Maguire and new signing Edinson Cavani are also unavailable.

This prompted some wild rumors that Solskjaer left Greenwood out as ‘punishment’ for the club’s victory over Newcastle.

“If that’s the case, why is Brandon here?” responded the Red Devils as quoted on Metro. “Where are your sources? That’s what I’m saying!”

Greenwood is instead unavailable due to an unspecified injury, with Solskjaer adding: “I can’t declare medical stuff can I?

“We hope it’s just a niggle and we don’t want to take any chances with him and hopefully at the weekend it’ll be fine again.”

Goalkeeper Sergio Romero, meanwhile, is also out of the Champions League squad for Tuesday. The 33-year-old hasn’t featured for United since a deadline day loan move to Everton fell through.

“We have a squad of 25 to put on the list,” continued Solskjaer.

“Phil [Jones] has been injured. Marcos [Rojo] has been injured and he’s been away from the team for a long time.

“Sergio hasn’t come back to us yet, so when we had to put the list in, we put the available players on.”
