According to a revealing report, Luis Suarez was being hunted by a major European football giant before he came to Atletico Madrid.
One has to ask if Luis Suarez’s move to Atletico Madrid was the best idea for FC Barcelona or not, other European giants were also after him. But there’s one club that we now know for certain they wanted the Uruguay international.
A revealing report from Telefoot details the whole plan PSG had to buy Luis Suarez as soon as FC Barcelona decided they were going to sell him. Thomas Tuchel has always been a fan of the Uruguay native. He had every intention to get him back together with Neymar. But Barcelona had other plans, they didn’t want the French giants to have a shot at signing the striker.
There was an alleged backlist that the club sent to Suarez, it contained the names of clubs that couldn’t make bids for the player. Essentially, they were allowing Luis to leave the club but only to institutions that weren’t on that blacklist. We all know how things worked out in the end. But some of us are convinced that Atletico Madrid is the best possible destination for a striker with Suarez’s characteristics. This plan Barcelona had, could very well backfire on them by the end of the season.
PSG still got revenge with Rafinha.
The French giants have a dark history with FC Barcelona over the last few years. They have always blocked some of their attempted transfers for important players and stolen stars from them. There was a time when Barça was after Thiago Silva and PSG refused to sell the player. Something very similar happened with Adrien Rabiot, they even sidelined the French player after he rebelled.
However, the biggest blow was when PSG took Neymar away from Barcelona by paying the €222 million release clause. The latest plot was taking away Rafinha for free, only after they agreed to pay variables if the player reached certain objectives. This obviously left Barcelona with no negotiating power to sign the players they wanted.
It also completed one of the Catalan club’s most disastrous transfer windows in recent history. All because there’s a nasty grudge between PSG and president Bartomeu. Suarez is just the tip of the iceberg in a long line of problems between both clubs.
