Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp spoke about Liverpool’s top competitor for the race of the league title.
Tottenham Hotspurs managed to gain victory over rivals Chelsea on Tuesday night. The club qualified for the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup in a dramatic penalty shootout. Evidently, it shows a deep sense of strength within Mourinho’s men.
Although, Spurs have tough week ahead. They play Europa League play-off on Thursday. Followed by a Premier League clash against Manchester United on Sunday.
Mourinho’s side has a great depth in squad. Tuesday’s game against Chelsea indicates the abilities of the team to handle situations.
Moreover, Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Matt Doherty sat on the bench. Whereas, Dele Alli did not even make it to the substitutes.
Redknapp’s prediction.
Redknapp believed that he could see only two clubs to win the league title in the beginning. Though, now he thinks that it comes down to only one team after Liverpool. Redknapp crossed Manchester City out after their big loss to Leicester City.
Nonetheless, the former Tottenham gaffer admitted that Spurs will follow Liverpool for the title race. Part of the reason is the new summer signing, Gareth Bale. And, he is yet to play for Mourinho’s side along with plenty of options.
“For me, there were two runners at the start of the season, Man City and Liverpool,” Redknapp said on Wednesday’s talkSPORT Breakfast.
“But Man City look off it at the moment. They’ve not been the same since Vincent Kompany finished, they’ve lost David Silva and they’ve lost Sergio Aguero now with injury.
“So I’d fancy Liverpool strongly.
“From what I’ve seen so far, Liverpool look on a different level. I don’t see anybody challenging them.
“But, I’ll be honest, I think Tottenham are going to have a good season.
“I watched them last night and they’ve got a strong squad.
“Have a look at their bench, they’ve got cover everywhere, really, except at centre-forward, and then they’ve got Gareth Bale to come.
“You know, Liverpool don’t play with an out-and-out targetman or a No.9, so why can’t Tottenham do the same? They’ve got Bale, Heung-Min Son, Lucas Moura…
“I think Tottenham have got a very good squad, very strong.”
